Red Baron Manfred von Richthofen Short Sleeve Red 100% Cotton Gildan T-Shirt
The Red Baron - Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen - Ace of Aces in World War I - the hunter - stares out at you from an Iron Cross, above the Dr.I tri-plane he is most famous for. Above the aircraft is "The Red Baron", beside the aircraft is "Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen" along with the Baron's signature.
Richthofen scored more confirmed air victories (80) than any other pilot of WWI. He was known for being a great hunter, and highly disciplined, more than a great pilot. Respected by both friend and foe, he was actually approached, during the war, by an English publisher to write a book about his successes. He was actually a Prussian baron, and his death in the spring of 1918 was symbolic of the death (sometimes literal) of the nobility and royalty that the war brought to Europe.
Pilot Roy Brown has been credited with shooting down the Red Baron, but evidence indicates he landed intentionally, and was shot by Australian ground fire which broke his spine. The instant paralysis would have made it impossible to fly such an unstable aircraft as the Dr.I.
The second highest scoring German ace, Ernst Udet, was asked after the war to be a consultant for a Hollywood picture about Richthofen. From Udet's autobiography: "He names a sum. It’s fantastic. I think for a moment. Richthofen? No! He’s too big for Hollywood."
